Minesweeper Sudoku 💣

A daily logic puzzle. Every cell of the grid is either filled or blank, and your job is to work out which is which. Pick a size, and pick how the grid is carved up — into nothing at all, into rectangular blocks, or into jigsaw shapes.

A number tells you nothing about the cell it sits in, so a numbered cell may be filled itself — and often is. You have to work it out like any other.

A number fades once you have filled as many cells around it as it asks for, so what is left to work out stands out from what is done. It only counts them: fill the wrong ones and it still fades, so it is a tally of your working rather than a verdict on it.

Click a cell to cycle it through unknown, filled and blank, and right click to wipe it in one go. A cell you have filled goes blue, one you have called blank goes grey and is crossed off, and one you have not decided stays white. Marking the blanks is not asked for, only the filled cells, but it is the easiest way to keep track. A cell turns red when it is already impossible — too many filled in a row, column, block or number, or so many blanks that one of them can no longer be satisfied.

There are six boards a day — two sizes crossed with three sets of regions — and each has exactly one answer that can always be reached by reasoning: no board is shipped unless a solver that never guesses can finish it, and unless it genuinely needs the numbers to overlap and talk to each other. Hint fills in one cell you could already have worked out. The clock starts when you first touch a cell and stops when the puzzle is complete.

Every puzzle has a name, shown in the heading below: today's is the date, and a random puzzle gets a number. Type a name in to play that exact puzzle, which is also how you set a friend the same one.
